DESCRIPTION:\n\nUsing neutrons in Archaeology\, Geology and Cultural Herit
 age Studies: Neutron Imaging\, Prompt Gamma Activation Analysis and Gamma 
 Scan\n\nThe newly founded Lund Institute for advanced Neutron and X-Ray Sc
 ience (LINXS) is planning a series of “tryout workshops”. The main ide
 a is to give the opportunity to scientists in geology\, archaeology and cu
 ltural heritage studies to bring their own samples and test different meth
 ods\, types of radiation and instruments\, before a full beam time proposa
 l is written. Also\, this would give scholars from different fields a poss
 ibility to meet\, discuss and learn more about techniques soon available i
 n Lund.\n\nThe first one is organized Feb 13-14 in collaboration with the 
 synchrotron ‘Elettra’ in Trieste and the second one is organized on Ma
 rch 2-4 in collaboration with Heinz Maier-Leinitz Zentrum of Technische Un
 iversität München and its research reactor FRM II\, with the imaging ins
 truments ANTARES for cold neutrons and NECTAR  for thermal and fast fissi
 on neutrons\, the instrument PGAA for prompt gamma activation analysis\, a
 nd the support of radiation protection for short-irradiation gamma scans f
 or rough composition determination.\n\nWhen: 2-4 March\nWhere: Technische 
 Universität München (TUM)\, Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum In Garching jus
 t north of Munich\nWhat: The Workshop begins 13:00 on Monday March 2\, wit
 h registration 11:00-13:00\, and it ends on Wednesday 4 August in the afte
 rnoon.\nCosts: Each participant pays for his/her own travel and accommodat
 ion\nAccommodation: Pre-bookings have been made at Hotel Hoyacker Hof rom
  Monday\, March 2nd to Thursday\, March 5th. Single rooms at EUR 82\,00 p
 .n. including breakfast. If you would like to stay at Hoyacker Hof\, pleas

 ry at the latest. The hotel is located in the centre of the town of Garch
 ing\; the workshop venue can be reached by underground (U6)\, just  one

 thods\, comparison to X-ray and synchrotron radiation\n\nTuesday\, March 3
 : \n\n\n	\n	Visit to the reactor\n	\n	\n	Neutron radiography with cold neu
 trons (instrument ANTARES) \, with thermal and with high-energy fission ne
 utrons (instrument NECTAR)\n	\n	\n	Prompt Gamma activation analysis for tr
 ace elements (instrument PGAA)\n	\n	\n	Gamma scans of samples after short-
 time irradiation for major elemental composition (radiation protection lab
 )\n	\n	\n	Joint dinner\n	\n\n\nWednesday\, March 4:\nEvaluation and discus
 sion of experiment results and future strategies.\n\nFurther information a
