DESCRIPTION:\n\nThis doctoral-level course will provide an introduction to
different neutron imaging modalities based on the theoretical background
to the methods and demonstration of their use through real examples. The c
ourse will involve a combination of lectures and hands-on (computer-based)
exercises with experts in the field from leading neutron imaging faciliti
es. Topics including neutron transmission tomography\, tomographic reconst
ruction and 3D/4D image analysis will be covered in addition to advanced t
opics such as scattering-contrast\, energy-selective and polarised neutron
imaging. Practical aspects relating to planning and preparing neutron ima
ging experiments will also be discussed. In addition\, there will be plent
y of opportunities to discuss with experts in the field and fellow researc
hers.\n\nThe objectives of the course are to develop the students’ aware
ness and understanding of different neutron imaging methods and their poss
ible applications in different areas of research. Students should thus be
able to make more effective use of neutron imaging in research by identifi
cation of the best methods\, understanding the strengths of different faci
lities and understanding the importance and key aspects of data analysis.
Students will also gain insight into the future possibilities in neutron i
maging\, e.g.\, at ESS.\n\nThe course is open to doctoral students\, postd
ocs and researchers. The number of places is limited to 20 and preference
will be given to doctoral students\, and in particular those in the SWEDNE
SS program. Acceptance on the course will be given at the beginning of Mar
ch. Students wishing to gain course credits towards their PhD degree will
be expected to submit follow-up course work that\, together with the lectu
res\, will amount to 3 ECTS. There is no charge to attend the course\, whi
ch is organised in collaboration between SWEDNESS (www.swedness.se) and LI
 NXS (www.linxs.se).\n\nhttps://lindico453.srv.lu.se/event/157/
