DESCRIPTION:The annual BigScience@LU event will be held online via Zoom on
  November 5\, 2020. Welcome to a half-day day filled with inspiration\, n
etworking\, and ecosystem building\, involving the research community at L
 und University\, the facilities ESS\, MAX IV\, CERN\, and ITER\, and Swedi
sh companies.\n\n\nThe central question of this workshop will be:\n\nDefin
ing areas of strength at Lund University in Big Science\n\n\nLast year’s
conference focused on gathering proposals from the Lund University perspe
ctive for the upcoming Government Bill on Research. We will also be discus
sing the outcome of this.\n\nPractical Information\n\n\n	The event can onl
y be attended digitally due to the latest restrictions\n	The "workshop" el
ement will be held over lunch\n	If you live in Lund\, you can register to
have lunch delivered to you.\n\n\nThe Zoom-link will be sent out to all pa
rticipants after the registration deadline\, which is November 3.\n\nWhy a
ttend BigScience@LU?\n\nBig Science facilities are not only important as m
ajor research tools for academia. The actual building and upgrading of the
se facilities drives the development of new\, cutting-edge technologies an
d processes. This new technology not only boosts the Big Science community
but can often be used in unrelated research areas and may have major impa
ct on other societal challenges and innovation.\n\nThere are multiple bene
fits for academia when engaging in contributions to the upstream delivery
of technology to Big Science facilities - scientific\, technological and s
ocietal. Another possible benefit is new collaboration with industries tha
t manufacture products used in Big Science.\n\nThis workshop focuses on Lu
nd University's past\, present\, and future involvement in upstream delive
ry to Big Science facilities\, lifting questions such as:\n\n\n	\n	What is
Lund University's track record in boosting Big Science\, and what are our
main strengths?\n	\n	\n	In which additional areas do we want to develop o
ver the next ten years? How do we ensure a steady flow of expertise and sk
ills\, and educate the right students?\n	\n	\n	How do we both attract and
maintain the right expertise at the university when the needs of these fac
ilities fluctuate over time and development cycles?\n	\n	\n	How should we
tackle the national issue of in-kind delivery to Big Science projects?\n	\
n\n\nThis event is co-hosted by Lund University\, Big Science Sweden\, and
  LINXS.\n \n\nhttps://lindico453.srv.lu.se/event/187/
