DESCRIPTION:\nWelcome to the LINXS Guest Seminar and WEBINAR: CoWork serie
 s  with Adam Hitchcock\n\nWhen: March 30\, 15:30 - 16.30\nWhere: at LIN
XS (Scheelvägen 19\, Lund)\, with digital connection possibility (Zoom)\n
 Registration deadline: March 24\,  at 12:00\n\n \n\nAbstract:\n\nSoft X
-ray scanning transmission microscopy (STXM) is a powerful tool for nanosc
ale materials analysis\, with significant advantages over analytical elect
ron microscopies for studies of radiation sensitive materials\, and for in
situ and operando studies. Ptychography (scanning coherent diffraction im
aging) can be measured using soft X-ray STXMs equipped with a suitable\, p
ost specimen X-ray camera. Ptychography provides significant improvements
in spatial resolution (~10 nm\, as opposed to 20-30 nm for conventional ST
XM) as well as additional information from phase imaging. This seminar wil
l describe recent advances in soft X-ray spectro-ptychography include exte
nsion to low X-ray energies (<200 eV)\, and in situ flow electrochemical s
tudies of Cu catalysts for CO2 reduction.\n\nBio:\n\nAdam Hitchcock was bo
 rn and educated in Canada (B.Sc.\, Chemistry\, McMaster\, 1974\; Ph.D.\, C
hemical Physics\, UBC\, 1978). His research focus is inner shell excitatio
n spectroscopies and spectromicroscopies. A professor at McMaster since 19
79\, his group has studied inner shell electron energy loss (EELS) spectro
scopy of gases and surfaces\, using home built instruments. In 1980 he sta
rted synchrotron experiments\, initially hard X-ray spectroscopy of materi
als at Cornell (USA)\, then soft X-ray spectroscopy of gases at LURE (Fran
ce) and SRC (USA). In 1994 he began developing soft X-ray transmission mic
roscopes (STXM) and photoemission microscopes (PEEM) at ALS (USA). He help
ed establish the Canadian Light Source (CLS\, Saskatoon) and the CLS spect
romicroscopy beamline\, currently equipped with 2 STXMs and a PEEM. In 200
6\, he was awarded fellowship of the Royal Society of Canada (FRSC\, Canad
a’s highest scientific honor)\, for his contributions to development of
X-ray microscopy and the CLS. His current research is focused on technique
developments of STXM and ptychography\, and their application to studies
of energy materials such as catalysts for CO2 reduction with in situ contr
ol of electrolyte and potential. \n\nProgramme Agenda\n\nThe detailed agen
